Travelling with a payment card on the lines of the Ostrava Public Transport Co. Inc.
You are holding an informational brochure in which we want to get you acquainted with an extension of the electronic check-in system in vehicles of the Ostrava Public Transport Co. Inc. and with a new check-in method.
With the use of the EU fund ROP Moravia-Silesia in 2015, we acquired an advanced technology for passengers´ check-in using the ODIS contactless smart cards. In order to increase the quality of services, travel comfort and availability of travel documents, we are now coming up with another innovation that shifts the check-in of passengers to a world-class level. Since mid-2016, passengers have the option to purchase single electronic tickets in the Ostrava public transportation with ordinary contactless bank cards. It makes the passengers’ check-in significantly simpler and more convenient.
Please, pay attention to the following information about traveling with a contactless payment card.

3.1) Using payment card in the vehicle
If passengers want to check in using a payment card (i.e. purchase a single electronic ticket), they need to touch the payment card on the terminal at each boarding to the vehicle, see Picture no. 2.
After successful touching of the payment card on the terminal, the display shows “Payment card registered”, see Picture no. 3.
Electronic non-transfer ticket (Check-out within 10 minutes of journey)
If passengers do not plan to transfer to another vehicle and if their journey does not take longer than 10 minutes, they have to terminate their journey when getting off the vehicle by touching the payment card on the terminal (Check-out).
The terminal screen displays “Payment card registered“ - see Picture no. 3.
Electronic transfer ticket (Transfer within 45 minutes of journey)
If traveling for over 10 minutes or if traveling with transfers, passengers do not need to touch their payment cards on the terminal every time they get off. If not, the system evaluates their fare based on the real times of touching the card or the times of transfers.
If passengers touch the payment card on the terminal, the terminal displays “Payment card registered“ - see Picture no. 3.
When transferring to another vehicle, it is always required to touch payment card on the terminal (Check-in).
3.2) Rejection of invalid payment card

- passengers shall contact the card issuer for verifying the reason, or
- if the reason passed, the card may be removed from the list of blocked cards as follows:
a) automatically every fourth or fourteenth calendar day of the month,
b) passengers shall ask for a removal from the list of blocked cards in traffic on the website https://karta.odiska.cz/emvweb (registration required).
If the terminal displays “Invalid card – card is listed among blocked cards“, the ticket is not deemed as purchased, and passengers need to purchase their tickets in another way.
3.3) Rejection of unauthorized payment card
If passengers touch any unauthorized payment card on the terminal and the screen displays “Transaction declined“, see Picture no. 5, the payment card was declined. Unauthorized payment card – means that the card is no longer valid, is damaged, is not intended for use in public transport or it does not comply with the VISA or Mastercard standards.
If the terminal displays “Transaction declined“, the ticket is not deemed as purchased, and passengers need to purchase their tickets in another way.
3.4) Illuminated transaction signals after a card is touched on the terminal
The course of transaction is also displayed by illuminated signals in the headings of the terminal screen, see Picture no. 6.
4) Displaying individual touching of a payment card on the terminal

The ticket prices are set out by the valid Tariff of the Ostrava Public Transport Co. Inc.
The clearance of completed payment card transactions is performed daily at 3:00 pm in the CC. All journeys during the last billing period, which is the time between 3:00 pm of the first day and 2:59 pm of the following day, are cleared.
If passengers take more journeys and the total amount for these transactions within one clearing period exceeds the price of a 24-hour ticket, they are charged only the 24-hour ticket costs according to the applicable tariff.
The clearance is processed based on the individual payment card transactions or evaluating whether it was check-in or check-out.
The CC then sends a final payment transaction to the issuing bank.
